When it comes to energy efficiency and comfort nothing can match the investment of home insulation. The value of proper insulation is truly remarkable when you consider that the costs of heating and cooling a home has skyrocketed 56% in the past 10 years Even many homes built in recent years fall short of insulation guidelines recommended by the US Department of Energy. There are many areas in the typical home, which require proper insulation.
There are many types of insulation available in the market today.
Ceiling Insulation
For most homes the ceiling is the most important area to insulate. Ceilings are usually insulated with a blown- in loose type of insulation. This application has several advantages to the blanket style insulation. The blown-in application allows for the insulation to be installed under floored areas. And finally, blown in insulation allows the applicator to vary the thickness of the additional insulation so the finished product is uniform in depth, thus eliminating hot and cold spots in your ceiling.
Floor Insulation
It is important to have your floor joists insulated with the proper thickness of blanket style insulation. Most blanket insulation comes with an attached vapor barrier, but it is still recommended to have a separate polyethylene ground cover installed to hold down the level of moisture, which can accumulate in a crawl space. One option to having the floor joists insulated is to have the insulation draped along the foundation walls. The application creates a conditioned crawl space.
Wall Insulation
Many of the older homes still do not have any insulation in the exterior wall cavities. Certain types of wall construction and siding will allow for the blown insulation to be installed. This process requires the removal of a few runs of siding around the house. Access holes are then drilled through the exterior sheathing and the cavities are then filled. In many cases, Lakeside Insulation has removed all the siding, installed the wall insulation and installed new maintenance-free vinyl siding as a complete exterior makeover.
Duct & Pipe Insulation
Having sufficient insulation on your ductwork will insure the temperature coming into your home from the furnace or heat pump stays the same. Areas of missing or damaged duct insulation can rob a home of its energy efficiency and cause the unit to work harder and longer.
Hot and cold water lines are often exposed in an unconditioned crawl space or basement. Installing insulation on these pipes not only protects them from the freezing cold, but also helps to deliver hot water through the home more efficiently.
Lakeside Insulation is committed to providing a variety of insulation products for both the new construction and retrofit industry. We have several of the new environmentally friendly insulations such as Johns Manville's formaldehyde - free fiberglass and Knauf's new ECO-Batt insulation. While the types of and styles of insulations have changed, Lakeside Insulation continues to offer the same professional service to our customers, which began back in 1956. Let us help you with all your insulation needs.
